WHAT HARDSCAPING MEANS HERE

One Crew for the Hard Materials in Your Yard

Hardscaping is everything in your yard that isn't plants or grass. Patios, walkways, pool decks, steps, retaining walls, outdoor kitchens, fire pit surrounds. If it's stone, paver, or concrete, we build it.

We are Techo-Pro certified, which is Techo-Bloc's installer certification. To keep it, our crew has to prove base prep, edge restraint, joint sand and polymeric joint work every year. That matters in London because our clay soil moves with freeze-thaw, and lazy base work is the number one reason patios sink, tilt, or heave within a few winters.

We pull aggregate and bedding material from Paton Soils, work from site plans that respect your drainage and grading, and finish every project to a standard we'd accept at our own houses.

SCOPE

What We Build in Hardscape

From a simple backyard patio to a full outdoor living buildout. Everything is engineered for Ontario frost depth and clay soil.

Paver Patios

Techo-Bloc pavers in Blu 60, Borealis, Industria, Raffinato and similar lines. Proper granular base, compacted in lifts, polymeric joint sand.

Pool Decks

Slip resistant coping, drainage pitched away from the pool, colour chosen to stay cool underfoot. Coordinated with your pool install.

Walkways & Steps

Front walks, side paths, garden paths. Step packages built to Ontario code with proper footings on anything tied to the house.

Retaining Walls

Under 4ft DIY-style block. Over 4ft fully engineered with geogrid reinforcement and drainage. See our retaining walls page.

Natural Stone

Flagstone, limestone, granite. Higher cost, longer install, distinct look. Best for traditional and heritage homes.

Poured Concrete

Broom, stamped, or exposed aggregate. Cheaper per square foot than pavers but more prone to cracking in our climate.

Outdoor Kitchens

Stone and block base, countertop, built-in grill, side burner, fridge. Gas lines run by licenced gas fitter.

Fire & Water Features

Fire pits, fire tables, fire walls, bubbling urns, sheer descents. See our fire & water page for full scope.

HOW IT WORKS

Our Process

1

On Site Meeting

Chris walks your yard, takes measurements, listens to what you actually want, and talks through budget honestly before anyone signs anything.

2

Design & Quote

Paver selection, pattern, colour, edges, drainage strategy. Written quote with line items. Revisions until it's right.

3

This is the step that makes or breaks a patio. Excavate to frost depth, lay geotextile, compact granular A in 3 inch lifts.

4

Paver Install

Bedding sand, pavers, cuts, edge restraint, compaction, polymeric joint sand. Cleanup daily. Most residential patios take 5 to 10 days on site.

5

Walkthrough

We walk the project with you, fix anything you flag, and hand over a care sheet for the first season.

TRANSPARENT PRICING

What Does a Hardscape Project Cost?

Installed ranges for 2026, before HST:

  • • Standard Techo-Bloc pavers: $28 to $38 per sqft
  • • Premium pavers (Blu 60, Borealis, Raffinato): $35 to $50 per sqft
  • • Natural stone: $45 to $65 per sqft
  • • Poured concrete (broom or stamped): $18 to $28 per sqft

A typical 400 sqft backyard paver patio in standard Techo-Bloc product lands around $12,000 to $16,000 installed. A 900 sqft pool deck in premium pavers is $35,000 to $45,000.

What pushes a hardscape quote up or down:

  • Total square footage (larger jobs get better per-sqft rates)
  • Product line chosen (standard vs premium Techo-Bloc vs natural stone)
  • Site access for machines, soil trucks and pallet delivery
  • Grading, drainage and any retaining walls tied into the patio
  • Cuts, curves and inlay patterns (circles and borders add labour)
  • Existing concrete or patio that needs to be removed first

All ranges are ballpark figures for London and Southwestern Ontario, 2026. HST (13%) added as a final line on every quote.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Common Questions

Why do some paver patios sink or heave after a few years?

Almost always because of bad base prep. If the contractor skipped geotextile, didn't excavate to frost depth, used the wrong aggregate, or didn't compact in proper lifts, it will fail. Freeze-thaw on clay is brutal. Techo-Pro spec is the minimum we build to, on every job.

Pavers vs stamped concrete — which is actually better?

Pavers cost more up front but win long term. Stamped concrete cracks. When it cracks, your only options are resurface or replace. With pavers, if something settles you lift the affected area and reset it. Pavers also breathe, so efflorescence and pooling are less of an issue in Ontario.

Do I need a permit for a patio?

A ground level patio in London typically doesn't need a building permit. Raised decks or structures over 60cm do. Fences, gas lines, and electrical to outdoor kitchens all need permits. We handle the paperwork for anything we build that triggers one.

How long does a hardscape project take?

Backyard patios: 5 to 10 working days. Full outdoor living builds with walls, kitchens and fire features: 3 to 6 weeks. Weather can push timelines, especially spring thaw. We give realistic dates, not optimistic ones.

What's the warranty?

Techo-Bloc carries a transferable lifetime product warranty on their pavers. Our installation workmanship is warrantied for 2 years on settlement and joint failure beyond normal wear. If something moves because of how we built it, we come back and fix it.
