PATIOS & POOL DECKS
Slip-rated coping, heat-managed paver colours, drainage pitched away from the pool. The patio around your pool is what you actually walk on every day — we build it like it matters.
POOL DECKS ARE DIFFERENT
The patio around your pool gets walked on with wet bare feet, soaks up summer sun all day, deals with chlorine splashes and pool chemistry, and has to shed water away from the pool shell. That's four jobs a regular backyard patio never has to do.
We design pool decks with those four jobs in mind from day one. Slip-rated finishes on the coping and first ring of pavers. Lighter colours in the sun zones so the deck doesn't scorch at 2pm. Drainage pitched away from the pool so dirty splash water can't run back in. Coping properly bonded to the pool shell so nothing moves with freeze-thaw.
Every pool deck we build is coordinated with your pool install (or your existing pool's coping) so the transition looks intentional, not tacked on.
MATERIALS
Every material choice on a pool deck is a trade-off between look, temperature, slip resistance and price. Here's what we actually install, and what each product does well.
Clean modern pavers. Full range of colours. Standard slip rating. Our default recommendation for most pool decks.
Textured surface for extra grip. Available in lighter ash and tan tones that stay cooler in direct sun.
Large format, contemporary look. Pairs with Raffinato coping for a seamless modern pool surround.
Natural stone that stays noticeably cooler than concrete pavers. Softer, pitted surface. Premium look, premium price.
Broom finish or stamped. Cheapest per sqft. Trade-off: visible cracking over 10 years in Ontario freeze-thaw.
Bullnose, cantilever or flagstone coping. Must be rated for pool edges and properly bonded to the shell.
HOW IT WORKS
We work from your pool plan (or photos of your existing pool). Material, colour, coping style and deck size are all decided together.
Excavate, lay geotextile, compact granular base in lifts. Pool decks sit right next to the pool shell, so settling anywhere is unacceptable.
Coping installed and bonded to the pool. Pavers laid outward from there with proper pitch for drainage.
Pitch verified with a level. Channel drains installed where needed. Polymeric joint sand swept and set.
We do a full wet-foot walk before handover, check pitch and coping, and hand over a care sheet for season one.
TRANSPARENT PRICING
Installed ranges for 2026 pool decks, before HST:
A standard 800 sqft pool deck in Techo-Bloc lands around $26,000 to $34,000 installed. Upgrading to premium Borealis or travertine pushes that to $38,000 to $55,000. Coping is priced per linear foot and usually adds $3,500 to $7,000 on a typical pool.
What changes the number:
All ranges are ballpark figures for London and Southwestern Ontario, 2026. HST (13%) added as a final line on every quote.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Dark pavers absorb heat. On a 30 degree day, a charcoal paver deck can easily hit 55 degrees Celsius underfoot. Wet feet on hot stone equals burned feet. Around pools we push clients toward medium and lighter tones. If you love a dark paver, we zone it to shaded or transition areas.
At the pool edge, yes. Anywhere you step out of the water soaking wet. Standard smooth paver faces become slick when wet. Textured finishes like Borealis, flamed natural stone, or textured travertine give you real grip. The rest of the deck is less critical but we still avoid high-polish finishes.
Usually. Techo-Bloc makes coping in most of their paver colours, and we can match existing flagstone or concrete coping in most cases. If your coping is failing, we replace it and blend new into old.
Pitch. Every pool deck we build is pitched a minimum 1% (about 1/8 inch per foot) away from the pool. In low spots or tight spaces we add channel drains to carry water out to the yard. Standing water or back-pitch into the pool is a red-flag build — it stains the tile line and messes with chemistry.
Pavers are maintainable. Single paver damage: we pull and replace. Settling in a small area: we lift, re-bed and reset. Try that with stamped concrete and you'll see why we push pavers for pool decks.
