TYPES OF WATER FEATURES

Moving Water Makes a Yard Feel Finished

A pool is a big commitment. A water feature isn't. For a fraction of the cost you get moving water, ambient sound that masks road noise, and a landscape focal point that draws the eye in every season. The real decision is whether you want a pond, or just the waterfall without one.

Full ponds with fish and plants are rewarding, but they're a living system. Plants, aeration, bacteria balance, overwintering. If you love that kind of thing, a pond is amazing. If you don't, skip it.

Pondless waterfalls are the popular middle ground. A waterfall runs over stone into a hidden basin of gravel. A pump recirculates the water. No open water, no maintenance, no worry about kids or pets. 80% of the feature for 30% of the fuss.

Bubbling urns and sheer descents are minimalist options. An urn bubbles into a gravel basin. A sheer-descent wall sends a thin sheet of water down a stone face. Both are simple, modern, and easy to retrofit into existing hardscape.

WHAT WE BUILD

Water Feature Types We Install

We build on Aquascape pumps, liners, filters and basins. Industry standard and serviceable for decades.

Natural Pond

1,000 to 4,000 gallon koi pond. Skimmer, biofalls, liner, rock, plants. Stocked fish optional. Aeration for winter.

Pondless Waterfall

Waterfall over boulders into a hidden gravel basin with pump vault. No open water. Safe around kids.

Bubbling Urn

Glazed or stone urn bubbling into a hidden basin. Modern, quiet, easy to install into any patio.

Sheer Descent Wall

Thin sheet of water down a stone or stucco face. Dramatic feature wall. Integrates with pool or patio.

Stream & Cascade

Meandering stream between upper basin and pond. Good for sloped yards where we can use natural grade.

Pool Waterfall Tie-In

Sheer descent or spillover bowl integrated directly with your pool. Uses pool pump or dedicated pump.

HOW IT WORKS

Our Process

1

Site Walk & Design

Where it sits, where the power runs, how it sounds from the patio. Pondless or full pond decided here.

2

Excavation & Liner

Dig the basin or pond. Underlayment and EPDM rubber liner (45 mil, Aquascape). No cheap liners — they fail in 5 years.

3

Plumbing & Pump

Pump vault set, plumbing run, check valves installed, electrical coordinated with a licenced electrician.

4

Rock, Gravel & Planting

Stone placed for natural look. Gravel fill in pondless basins. Aquatic plants for ponds.

5

Startup & Teach

Fill, run, adjust waterfall flow, teach you winter shutdown and spring startup. Care sheet and product manuals handed over.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Common Questions

How much maintenance does a pond really need?

A natural pond needs weekly attention in summer — skimmer clean, plant trimming, water chemistry check. Spring startup and fall shutdown take a full day each. Pondless waterfalls need 15 minutes a week of topping off the basin. Bubbling urns are closest to maintenance-free.

Will the pump run all winter?

No. Every water feature we install has a winter shutdown. Pump comes out, water is drained below freezing depth, system is buttoned up. We can do the shutdown for you or walk you through doing it yourself. Some clients install de-icers on full ponds to keep a hole open for koi.

Can I have a pond with koi?

Yes, and we build them properly for koi (deep enough to overwinter, aerated, bottom drain). Koi are a commitment — they live 20+ years, need winter care, and raccoons love them. We'll talk you through it honestly.

Pondless vs natural pond — which is right for me?

Pondless if you want the sound and look of moving water with near-zero maintenance. Full pond if you genuinely enjoy the hobby of plants and fish. 8 out of 10 clients go pondless and are glad they did.

Can you tie a waterfall into my existing pool?

Usually yes. Sheer descents and spillover bowls can be mounted to pool walls or adjacent retaining walls, plumbed off the pool pump or a dedicated pump. Best done during pool construction, but retrofits are possible.
